What kind of growth is your website generating?
Your website is more than a brochure for your business — it’s the heart of your business’s marketing strategy, but if you’re not employing some of these essential SEO strategies in your website’s design, then you’re likely missing out on some opportunities. And if you’re missing out on opportunities, then you’re missing out on revenue growth.
If you want a website that helps your business reach more customers and drive more growth, then consider these SEO-minded techniques that will help you achieve your goals.
Essential Seo Strategies #1: Publish Relevant, Useful Content
This is a drum we beat quite frequently around here, but for good reason. Among essential SEO strategies, there’s arguably none more important than this one.
Regularly creating relevant and useful content for your website helps search engines like Google to review your site, evaluate its accuracy and usefulness, and reward its authority by improving its ranking in search.
You’ll want to do more than just generate keyword-driven content, however. In order to stand out, you’ll want to provide insights on topics that are original and insightful in order to create differentiation from your competitors.
Give your original content a clear, easy to read structure, and although one goal is to appeal to the ever-finicky demands of search engines, your ultimate goal is to create content that is appealing and useful to real people.
Make sure your service or product pages are informative but to the point. Use language that is engaging and action-oriented in order to drive them further into the marketing funnel so that you can lead them to a conversion.
Use tactics like an on-site blog in order to delve deeper into highly specific topics, which will help you build more trust with your audience, showcase your subject matter expertise, and help your website rank higher for a wider variety of keywords.
Some keywords are going to be highly competitive. This doesn’t mean you should avoid creating content using those keywords. Instead, look for creative ways to approach those keywords while also looking for keyword opportunities that your competitors are ignoring.
Essential Seo Strategies #2: Don’t Forget The Title And Heading Tags
Tags help search engines evaluate what your content is about in order to rank them based on their relevance and quality.
Most commonly, you’ll be using title and heading tags in your web pages and blogs. Your title tag is, you guessed it, typically the title of your blog, article, or page. It should be brief (approximately 50 characters) and contain the main keyword your content is focused on.
For example, the title tag of this blog is, “Essential SEO Strategies for a Successful Website.”
The keyword phrase we’re focusing on is “essential SEO strategies.”
Your title tag will appear in more places than just the top of its respective page — whatever title you’ve chosen will appear in places like the results pages in search engines and the tabs of your browser, so the briefer and more relevant, the better!
Similarly, how you use headers within your webpage, blog, or article will also support your business’s SEO strategy.
Your “Heading 1” or “H1” is your title. You should only have one of those, and it should match your title tag.
In order to make your content easier to scan for the reader (and easier to evaluate for search engines), you can use “Heading 2” or an “H2” in order to break things up visually, organize content by topic, and insert keywords into your blog.
The H2 for this section is “Essential Seo Strategies: Don’t Forget The Title And Heading Tags,” which helps you understand what this section is about and uses the relevant keyword phrase.
If you need to create subheadings within your H2 subheadings, you can then use “Heading 3,” “Heading 4,” and so on, but remember to: 1) use these headings in chronological order, and 2) not overengineer your content visually.
(Hint: This content directly above is an example of an H3, and it looks kinda weird, doesn’t it? It’s too long and isn’t creating a new subsection of content — it’s just there!)
Too many subheadings can be confusing for your readers, and you certainly should avoid adding too many subheadings if your goal is simply to add more keywords — search engines and your audience will know that something is off.
Essential Seo Strategies #3: Your Images Need Optimization, Too
The imagery on your website is not only critical to your business’s brand and its ability to visually convey the value of your products and services, but it also has an impact on your SEO.
First, ensure that your images are sized appropriately. Large image files can cause your website to lag and take too long to load, leading to a poor user experience.
Secondly, your site images should use alt text in order to describe the images and their meaning, which is beneficial to broaden user accessibility and to help search engines understand and evaluate your site’s imagery.
