A little over a year ago, we started building a website for our brand. It was quick and dirty. Meghan and I mapped out our core ideas, services, and selling points. We launched it without thinking much because, at the end of the day, we just needed to see what the data told us.
After a couple of months, we realized we were heading in the wrong direction. We reset our brand, our services, and completely revised the website.
Instead of having a few months to think through what we wanted, we had to move fast. We only gave ourselves a week to build something out. I was getting back into the swing of graphic design. My abstract shapes were a little shoddy, my color palette unrefined. Our copy was rough, but it spoke to what we cared about. Thank goodness for Nathan who revised all the copy. But we didn’t wait. We knew we could always come back and improve it. And that we had to.
Over the year our website has transformed, shifted and blossomed. Today, we have a fresher website, with transparency on pricing, easy navigation, and quicker conversion.
The takeaway here is this. We could have waited. We could have put this off, over and over again. We could have backed down from launch because it wasn’t yet perfect.
Stop waiting. Launch it. Build it. Record it. Do it. The first product, website, podcast, job, or whatever it is will be TERRIBLE. But you can’t get better at it until you make an attempt.
