Click, Click, Click — What Holiday Song Reminds You Most of Your Digital Marketing Agency?
I have zero qualms about loving Christmas music. Yes, it’s the same batch of songs it’s been for the last seventy years. Yes, they’re saccharine sweet and designed to tug at your heartstrings and fill you with feelings of nostalgia, but doggone it, there’s great songs in there.
So many of these tunes have such distinct personalities, and almost all of them are centered on relationships — families, friends, and loved ones. But what about us agencies? (Actually, it should come as no surprise that some of our most cherished holiday iconography was actually developed for marketing purposes, but I digress.)
So, since there are no songs about agencies, I thought it would be fun to recontextualize some of our favorite Christmas songs in terms of the agency-client relationship.
Fill your mugs with eggnog. Break out the peppermint bark. And let’s enjoy a little meaningless romp through some holiday classics. Enjoy.
“Baby, It’s Cold Outside”
You enjoy spending time with your agency. In fact, you really like them. But you’re a bit coy. Ultimately, you’re gonna stick with them, but you’re going to play hard to get. After all, they need to earn your business, right?
“A Wonderful Christmas Time”
Your agency is a real “first idea, best idea” sort of operation. Their presentations aren’t incredibly well thought out, and they’ve clearly been put together at the last minute, but despite their slap dash nature, you find them quite charming.
“Rudolph The Red Nosed-Reindeer”
The underdog. They’re the agency that doesn’t necessarily look like a winner, but despite what they seem to lack compared to the bigger, fancier agencies, there’s no one more reliable when you need them most. A light in the darkness.
“Last Christmas”
The agency that got away. You used to work together, but they severed your relationship to work with your competition. You’ve moved on. Sort of. You’ve found another agency to work with, and they’re great, but you still can’t help but wonder what kind of work you could have done together.
“Little Saint Nick”
This agency is an institution. They’re revered, and for good reason, but not everything they touch turns to gold. You realize that while what you’re hearing sounds amazing, it doesn’t really mean much of anything. “Chistmas comes this time each year.” …Okay?
“White Christmas”
The mythic ideal of agency. Every proposal is a homerun. Every campaign delivers maximum ROI. Every report is filled with new strategies designed to build upon the last. Your new client opportunities are like a faucet you can’t turn off. But it’s only a dream. (Or, is it?)
The entire Formada team wants to wish you, your colleagues, and all of your loved ones a safe and joyous holiday season.
